Traditional Thai Foot Massage

Thai Foot Massage is a unique and powerful therapy and an ancient form of therapeutic healing.  It was brought to Thailand over 2000 years ago by Ayurvedic doctors and Buddhist monks.  It combines acupressure, energy balancing with stretching  exercises.  In its earliest development it found its way to Southeast Asia and for centuries it was performed by monks as one element in indigenous Thai medicine.

It has a focus on pressure points, energy lines/sen lines within the body. Using Using thumbs, hands, wooden bamboo tool, massage is applied to the lower legs and feet using rubbing, kneading, stretching and vibrational techniques.

Energy lines in Thailand are called Sen Lines and thought to be around 72,000. 10 are considered to be principle Sen Lines and by focusing on theses points, we work on the reflex/pressure points on the feet which correspond to internal organs, through which life energy or "Ki, Chi or Prana flows". It is believed that blockages within the flow will result in pain, illness or diseases. By working along these lines with pressure, stretching blocked energy can be released and ultimate bodily function and balance is created.

Traditional Thai Foot Massage can promote overall health, increase energy and to provide a general sense of wellbeing.

What happens during a treatment:

As with all my treatments you are required to complete a consultation form and sign consent for treatment. There are certain conditions that may prevent the treatment of Thai Foot Massage, need an adaptation of the sequence, or require a letter of approval from your doctor so please discuss at the time of booking if you feel there may be any contraindications.

During Thai Foot Massage you will be required to remove your shoes and socks only and your feet will be cleansed. It is a requirement to please wear loose fitting trousers or shorts which can be rolled above the knee as Thai foot massage works on the lower leg, shins, calf, ankles and foot. You will be positioned in a  reclining chair and assisted to get comfortable. Blankets will be provided for your comfort and the legs/feet may be wrapped in towels when the opposite leg/foot is being worked. Grapeseed oil is used and a wooden bamboo tool will be used for part of the session as well as me using massage techniques with my hands, thumbs and knuckles. It can feel a little more vigorous and intense than a Reflexology session but equally produces a deep and unique feeling of balance, relaxation and well-being.
